Revisions
are scary. Cutting scenes you once thought not only necessary, but integral, in
the hope of replacing them with something better is scary.
This helps:
“Let me say it here once and for all: unless you make big
changes, a revision isn’t worth doing. If you go out on a submission round
and get roundly rejected, you’re not going to solve your problem by going back
to the page to tweak a few words here and there. I’ve said this before, but
look at the word revision…it means “to see again.” To see your story in
a whole new light. To make massive plot, character, and language changes. And
having so much on the page already often lures us into a false complacency.” - Mary Cole, Kidlit.com
Ooo...I've never done a revision. It's does sound scary!
ReplyDeleteRevisions are my least favorite thing to do, but I've grown bolder over the years. Love that quote! It's so true.
ReplyDeleteI feel ya! I've cust 14k so far in my novel for revisions!
ReplyDeleteShe makes it sound so daunting...
ReplyDeleteThen again, revisions are pretty daunting. My issue with doing them is unless I have something solid to work off of, I don't quite trust myself. If I'm not getting any nibbles, and no critiques, I find myself completely frustrated.
Is it me? Is it them? I like it, but is that enough?
It gets messy.
Yes, this does help. Good luck. I know you can do it.
